With the recent update, you may notice that the direction of the relationships has changed (what we’re calling the switch or the flip-flop). If this is the case, don’t worry, we’ll help you take care of it. We’ve got a couple of things we can do to help you turn the upside down right side up.
You can merge one relationship into another, for example, changing both Husband/Wife to Spouse. This simple step may do the trick for some. For others, you may need to switch the relationships - flip flop parent for child and vice versa. In either case, we'll help you take care of it. Before you get started making any changes to relationships, please check out the details below and then contact us with any questions.
Before you Get Started
To help with the change, we suggest not making any immediate changes to data in your account. Rest assured, we’re here to help you get it taken care of. While it may look odd at first, taking the time to make sure relationships are updated correctly will save a lot of time in the end.
Merge a Relationship
In the case where you are using gendered relationships (Husband/Wife or Son/Daughter), you can update them to use more general relationships. To help with this, you can change all records of one relationship type to another by merging a relationships. Please note, once you make the change, it cannot be undone.
For example, if you are using relationships of Husband/Wife but need to change both to spouse. This will help in situations where the kind of relationship is correct, but the gender is off.
Switch a Relationship
You may need to switch the relationships - flip flop parent for child and vice versa. We can help you out with this. So if your relationships look backwards, like parent and child are switched, give us a shout and we’ll help you switch relationships in your account to help you turn the upside down right side up.
Example: Carol Brady parent of Marcia Brady. It would look pretty odd to see Carol Brady listed as the child of Marcia.
Can you help? Relationships in my account don't look like I'd expect.
Yep! With the recent update, things might look a little upside down for a bit. Before you do anything, let us know and we'll help you out.
When I view relationships, it looks like Husband and Wife were flip-flopped. How do I fix it?
With the recent update, you might notice that gendered relationships look opposite - Husband/Wife, Brother/Sister, or Son/Daughter to name just a few. You can fix it by merging both relationships into one more generic relationship, like Spouse, Sibling, or Child.
