This article explains how the Do Not Pay, Commission on Hold, and manual date range features affect commission payments and reporting in AMS+.
Do Not Pay
The Do Not Pay checkbox is available at the policy level for specific Agent/Rate Table combinations. It does not apply to Payee Schedules.
When this box is selected:
- The agent is excluded from commission payouts.
- The commission entry is split among the remaining eligible agents.
- The agent is completely hidden from the Add & Edit Entries page.
- The Agent Statements report only shows agents who received a payout.
- The Commission Payments report will not include the agent or what they would have received. If the only agent on a policy is marked as Do Not Pay, the report will appear blank.
- If you change your mind later, uncheck the Do Not Pay box. Then, unlock the statement date, relink or refresh the entries, and re-run the reports to apply the update.
Note: If both the Do Not Pay checkbox and manual date filters are used, Do Not Pay takes precedence and overrides any other settings. The system treats the agent as if they are not associated with the policy at all.
Commission on Hold
The Commission on Hold checkbox is found in the agent's record.
When this box is selected:
- You do not need to specify a date range to stop payments.
- The system will hold future payments immediately.
- If commission entries were already loaded before the hold was enabled or disabled, relink entries to apply the change.
Reporting behavior
- Add & Edit Entries: The agent still appears in the commission split.
- Agent Statements: Will not show held commissions unless you select the Include Commission on Hold filter.
- Commission Totals: Will not show held commissions unless you select the Include Commission on Hold filter.
- Commission Payments: Will display agent amounts even if commissions are on hold.
- Agent Adjustments (ADCO): Will still be paid, even if Commission on Hold is enabled.
Additional notes
- Dates on hold are tied to the Agent Statement Date, not the Bill From Date.
- When the hold is removed, past unpaid commissions are not automatically reprocessed. You'll need to:
- Unlock the statement date
- Refresh/relink the entries
- Re-run reports as needed
Scenarios tested
| Statement date | Hold status | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Locked | Unchecked & date removed | Agent not included in statements |
| Unlocked | Unchecked & date removed | Agent not included in statements |
| Unlocked + relinked | Unchecked & date removed | Agent is included in statements |
Negative/carryover balances
- If an agent has a carryover balance and is on hold, that balance will still appear on statements.
- However, they won't receive new commissions unless the Include Commission on Hold option is selected on the report.
- Once hold is removed, unlock and relink entries to apply commissions toward the carryover balance.
Manual dates on payees
Manual date ranges can be added to payees on the policy to control when commissions apply. These are based on the Bill From Date of the commission entry.
How it works
- If a commission's Bill From Date falls within a payee's date range, the payout is calculated normally.
- If the Bill From Date does not fall within any agent's date range:
- That agent is excluded from the split.
- If all agents have date parameters and none match, the entry will show "No payout defined."
- If the commission entry does not include a Bill From Date and all payees have date ranges, the entry will also show "No payout defined."
Reporting behavior
- Manual dates affect whether a payout is calculated.
- Reports reflect calculated payouts as usual. If no payout is calculated, the agent will not appear in the reports.
Best practices
- Use Do Not Pay when an agent should be excluded from all commission payments for a specific policy.
- Use Commission on Hold when temporarily pausing payments to an agent, but still wanting to retain their setup.
- Use manual dates when only paying agents for a specific period.
Each feature is powerful on its own, but knowing how they interact helps ensure accurate reporting and payout processing.
