How to activate the integration
You must belong to a Security Group with the “Visible” Sales Enablement permission and the “Manage Users” Administrative permission to set up the integration.
This integration requires an API key from your Direct Mail Manager account. If you don’t have an account, sign up for one at https://directmailmanager.com/.
Note: Direct Mail Manager subscription and mailing costs are separate from your AMS+ subscription.
To get started:
- Log into your Direct Mail Manager (DMM) account at https://app.directmailmanager.com/login/.
- In your DMM account, go to the Developers page.
- On the Developers > API Keys page, select the ‘Add Key’ button to generate and name a new key. Make sure the key’s status is toggled ON.
- If you’re using your Direct Mail Manager account for other applications, we recommend naming the key “AMS+ DMM Integration” to help keep them organized.
- After creating an API key, log into your AMS+ account and go to the Settings > Sales > Direct Mail Manager setting.
- Enter your Direct Mail Manager API key.
- Save to activate the integration.
Upon activation, the integration page will expand and display new postcard and letter template sections in AMS+. You’re now ready to create templates for postcards and/or letters.
How to create postcard and letter templates
Postcards and letters are mailed through Direct Mail Manager. Before sending mail in AMS+, you must first create and add the artwork for your postcards and letters to your Direct Mail Manager account. If you want some ideas, refer to Direct Mail Manager’s templates.
Once you’d added some artwork to your Direct Mail Manager account, you will need to create at least one postcard or letter template in AMS+:
- On the Settings > Sales > Direct Mail Manager page, select the ‘New Template’ button for the type of correspondence you wish to send.
- In this example, we’ll create a postcard template. Setup for letter templates is virtually the same, with the exception of a few additional parameters (ex. color, double-sided, mail type, and address placement).
- Name the template.
- Pick and choose the template artwork.
- Your artwork options are pulled straight from your connected Direct Mail Manager account. If you want different artwork, you will need to upload it to your Direct Mail Manager account first.
- When finished, save the template.
- Now that you have a template, you can start sending mail to your leads and clients.
How to start sending mail through the integration
If your account’s Direct Mail Manager integration is activated with a valid Direct Mail Manager API key AND you’ve created at least one postcard or letter template, you’re ready to start sending mail to your leads and clients.
Note: The Direct Mail Manager integration supports Sales Records only.
Before sending mail through the integration, ensure that the recipient’s address fields are populated with valid and up-to-date information, including street address, city, state, and zip code (county is not required).
Direct Mail Manager automatically verifies addresses each time you send a postcard or letter. If the address is missing or invalid, mail will not be sent.
With that in mind, you have two options for sending mail in AMS+. You can send it manually from the Sales Record, or you can set up Sales Workflows to send postcards/letters when triggered.
Tips and best practices
For safety reasons, a postcard/letter can only be mailed to a Sales Record once. Before sending, always verify the postcard and make sure everything looks good by sending a test mail to yourself.
Also, if you do mailings that are yearly (i.e. birthday), be prepared to change the card every year, even if it uses the same artwork.
Delivery metrics and analytics
All delivery metrics and analytics are stored in your Direct Mail Manager account. AMS+ only captures the mail’s sent date and template used on the Sales Record’s Notes tab.
