Interpreting the data
With the Commission Totals report, you can download a list of all your agents and the commissions owed to them. This list can then be used for payment processing at your agency.
Note: You must be finalizing agent payments or this report will show incorrect data in the following columns:
- Outstanding Balance
- Adjustments Applied
- Net Amount to be Paid
Which agents get checks?
To see which agents get checks, you’ll want to include balance carryovers and agent adjustments in the report output. You can export this data for locked Agent Statement Dates only using the ‘Totals By Agent’ report criteria.
When you run the report, you will see a ‘Net Amount to be Paid’ column. This column will display either $0 or a positive dollar amount. An amount of $0 means that the agent hasn’t met the minimum payment threshold and shouldn’t be paid. A positive amount means the agent should be paid.
Net Amount to be Paid = Outstanding Balance + Commission Earned + Adjustments Applied
What is Outstanding Balance?
You will see a positive amount in the ‘Outstanding Balance’ column if the agent met the minimum payment threshold that was set when agent payments were finalized for the last date in the specified date range. The amount reflects what was carried over from previous dates. Once that the agent has met the threshold, it i added to the commission earned in the last date in the specified date range.
You will see a negative amount in the ‘Outstanding Balance’ column if the agent has been carrying over a balance that has not been repaid AND it is being deducted from the commission earned for the last date in the specified date range. In this case, the ‘Net Amount to be Paid’ will be zero.
How much was an agent actually paid?
The ‘Net Amount to be Paid’ column shows how much commissions the agent was actually paid after adjustments and chargebacks were applied. You could use this information for 1099s.
Note: If you want to use this report for 1099s, we recommend running for the entire range that you’re reporting for, not just a single date.
